New Alert Type for Switching to battery power!

Hey everyone, we added a nice little alert for the Pulse Ones and Pros.

In the devices alerts there’s a “Alert if power source shifts from outlet to battery”.
This will enable a notification that the device is using battery power.

This feature is not available on some older devices (pre-2020)

This is a great improvement. I think I have at least two historic requests to support for something like this. Mainly a complaint that I don’t get alerts when there’s a power outage.

But I do have a question: originally I thought the power outage alert would perform this function, since the power outage sensitivity seems to make more sense in a wall outlet context than a battery context. So now I’m curious, what is the power outage alert and sensitivity meant to be used for?

I don’t imagine that a battery typically goes out temporarily for 1 or 3 minutes.

I will provide a detailed answer a bit later on.

Hey Noah, wanted to update you on this.

In short - that sensitivity setting was excessive. The original idea was to provide users with a way of customizing the amount of time before a power alert went off. I disabled it for now.

In reality, the power and connectivity alerts pretty much did the same thing.

Now -
Connectivity alert - get an alert if device is not connected for any reason
Power alert - get an alert that wall power is restored (they always come in as resolved)
Outlet transition - Power source shifted from outlet to battery

We will update the docs with a better explanation and add information tags to the app pretty soon make this all nice and clear.

How about an alert when the device loses internet connectivity. Like an email or a pop up message?

that’s exactly what the connectivity alert is :slight_smile:

I do have that switched on but I don’t get an email or alert it’s disconnected unless I open the app. Am I being a luddite?
