Assigning template does not transfer all template settings

In the template creation/edit dialog, you can set the photoperiod day start and night start. You can also set VPD.

The neither of these settings are transferred to the device properly. I noticed that day/night start was not transferred to the device when either you select the template from the device alert dialog, or drag the device into the template on the template dialog. The VPD seems to have been transferred with the template dialog change, but not the device’s own menu when selecting a template. Both of these settings should transfer when selecting a template from either menu.

Thanks for your consideration.

Appreciate the feedback! @Ggofman will look into this whenever he has a chance

Thanks.

This might also be a good place for me to mention how I think templates should work:
If someone assigns a device to a template, it should always have the values of that template, even if the template is modified. If I have ten devices assigned to a template, and then I go to the template and modify the light schedule or toggle a setting, that change should be transferred to all devices using that template (currently this does not happen). If a user goes into a device and modifies a setting and that device is assigned to a template, it should be booted off of that template; Maybe the user should get a notification that this will happen which recommends that they save their new settings to a template or an option to have their changes transferred to the template.

Thanks!

Hi Noah.

Thank you for you feedback. I finally had a chance to look into your issue and saw that Vpd was not copied from the template for Co2 sensors and the times weren’t copied at all for sensors.

It should be fine now, but please let me know if you still have trouble.

As for your feedback - i think we considered something like this in the past, but decided to keep the current approach due to flexibility. But we do appreciate you taking the time to go over this with us.

Thanks! Did you also check the light level setting? I noticed last night my Ones that were assigned to a template had nighttime light alarm values that did not match. I also noticed at the time that changing the light level with my phone keyboard did not submit the change, so I needed to type the value I wanted, then press one of the arrows to get it to save.

So if you don’t plan on having templates work the way I envisioned, can you tell me what the workflow should be when changing a template value and having that value saved to each device using that template?

Hello!

I double checked, setting the light worked fine for me.
Is there any chance you could provide a video?

As for the workflow - there’s no way right to reapply a template to all of the devices bound to it.
Templates work by applying them to a device.

However, in the foreseeable future we could consider adding a reapply button which would cause all devices to pick up the settings from the template they are assigned too. I can’t provide you an estimate when i’ll have time to discuss / add this in rn.

Potentially and not guaranteed - we had some thoughts on integrating templates into zones.
Something like zone presets that would apply when you add a device to a zone.

I’m still experiencing issues with templates.

Today I wanted to assign a group of devices to a new template, they were already assigned to a template.

I went to one device, changed all the set points.
I went to templates, create new, based on device, saved.
I went to templates, moved all devices to the new template.
Values were wacky, not what I set.
Went back to edit template, values were wrong, I edited them.
Went back to template assignment, moved all devices onto a different template, then back onto that template so they adopted the new values (since I guess this is far I’m supposed to do)
They now had the correct set points.

So something about the initial clone template based on device didn’t work.

Hello Noah.

It’s unfortunate that you are still having issues.
Could you please provide a screen recording of your troubles?
I need a bit more info to investigate this.

You can send it to me at gregory@pulsegrow.com

Thank you.
